Counterfeit Currency Manufacturing Hits Home in Tennessee
A local counterfeiting operation has been brought to a close, with a Crossville man facing serious prison time. Ronald Thacker, 48, of Crossville, Tennessee, admitted to manufacturing counterfeit $50 bills in Nashville in May 2012 and using them to fuel a local spending spree.
According to court records, Thacker used the counterfeit bills to purchase food at restaurants and items from retail stores. His illicit activities didn’t stop there. He also manufactured counterfeit $50 bills in Crossville, Tennessee in August 2012 and attempted to use them at various local businesses.
The Counterfeit Currency case was investigated by agents of the United States Secret Service, the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, and the Crossville Police Department. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney William F. Abely.
As a result of his plea, Thacker faces a maximum sentence of twenty years in prison on each of the two counts he pleaded guilty to. He is scheduled to be sentenced on January 31, 2014, by Judge Todd J. Campbell.
The use of counterfeit currency is a serious crime that can have devastating effects on local businesses and the community as a whole. We commend the hard work of law enforcement and prosecutors in bringing this case to a close.
