Serial Gun Felon Sentenced in Federal Court
In a shocking turn of events, Roosevelt Jones, 52, of Selma, Alabama, was sentenced to 21 months imprisonment for his role in being a felon in possession of a firearm. The incident occurred on February 2017 when Jones was stopped by a state trooper in Dallas County.
According to sources, Jones had attempted to avoid a driver’s license checkpoint, which led to the trooper noticing a gun on the back seat of his vehicle. Upon further investigation, it was determined that Jones had a criminal history, including three prior convictions for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Jones was indicted in February 2017 on the charges in the current case and pled guilty to them in April 2017. United States District Court Judge Kristi K. Dubose imposed the sentence, which will be followed by a three-year term of supervised release. In addition, Judge Dubose revoked Jones’ concurrent terms of supervised release on the old cases and ordered a six-month term of imprisonment, to run concurrently with the sentence in the current case.
The case was investigated by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (Alabama State Troopers) and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. It was prosecuted in the United States Attorney’s Office by Assistant United States Attorney Gloria Bedwell.
Jones was also ordered to pay $100 in special assessments. This is a significant blow to the serial gun felon, who had been evading the law for far too long.
