Rosebud Man Fleeing Custody Lands in Trouble
A 21-year-old Rosebud man is facing the consequences of his actions after fleeing custody. Justin Lee Gabriel, 21, of Rosebud, South Dakota, pleaded guilty to an indictment charging him with escape from custody on January 28, 2013, before Chief U.S. District Judge Jeffrey L. Viken.
According to the indictment, Gabriel left the Community Alternatives of the Black Hills (CABH) on August 18, 2012, and did not return. The U.S. Marshal’s Service conducted the investigation into Gabriel’s disappearance.
Gabriel was indicted for escape from custody by a federal grand jury on September 25, 2012. The maximum penalty upon conviction is five years’ imprisonment and a $250,000 fine.
The defendant was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshal pending sentencing. A presentence investigation was ordered, and a sentencing date was set for June 7, 2013.
