Dylan Blue Thunder, Assault With Intent to Commit Murder, South Dakota 2019

ROSEBUD, SD – A violent attack on the Rosebud Reservation has landed 19-year-old Dylan Blue Thunder, also known as Dylan Black Lance, in federal custody. He’s been indicted on three serious charges stemming from a brutal stabbing that nearly claimed a life.

According to documents released by the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Blue Thunder was indicted by a federal grand jury on April 9, 2019, for Assault With Intent to Commit Murder, Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, and Assault Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury. The alleged attack took place on March 29, 2019, where Blue Thunder is accused of stabbing an individual in the neck with a knife, demonstrating a clear intent to kill. The victim suffered significant injuries as a result.

U.S. Attorney Ron Parsons announced the indictment, detailing the severity of the accusations. Blue Thunder entered a plea of not guilty before U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark A. Moreno on May 7, 2019. If convicted on all counts, the Rosebud man faces a maximum sentence of up to 20 years in federal prison, alongside a potential $250,000 fine. The court could also impose three years of supervised release and a $100 payment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund, with the possibility of restitution ordered to cover the victim’s expenses.
