GRIMY NEWS: Bobby Lee Rowell, 54, of Vian, Oklahoma, has been sentenced to 135 months in federal prison for conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine. The sentence was handed down by District Judge James H. Payne following a guilty plea in September 2013.
The investigation that led to Rowell’s conviction was a collaborative effort between the Sallisaw Police Department, the Bureau of Indian Affairs, and the Drug Enforcement Administration. Charges were filed in August 2013, with the indictment claiming Rowell conspired to distribute at least 50 grams of methamphetamine from as early as August 2012.
Rowell’s sentence also includes four years of supervised release and a $50,000 fine. He was indicted for his role in distributing the dangerous drug in the Eastern District of Oklahoma and beyond. The defendant will remain under the custody of the United States Marshal Service until he is transported to a designated federal prison.
The case has sent shockwaves through the Vian community, raising concerns about the prevalence of methamphetamine in the area. Assistant United States Attorney Kyle Waters represented the United States in court, ensuring justice was served.
