Rudy Gumataotao Palomo, Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Ammunition, Guam 2024

A 46-month prison sentence was handed down to Rudy Gumataotao Palomo, a convicted felon, for his involvement in two serious offenses: Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Felon in Possession of Ammunition. The charges stem from an incident that took place on July 29, 2012, in the village of Yigo, Guam.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s office, Palomo was found in possession of a 30.30 Marvin Lever Action Rifle with a chambered round of ammunition. He then pointed the firearm at a relative, prompting the relative to call the police. Guam Police Officers pulled Palomo over and discovered the firearm and ammunition underneath his seat.

Palomo’s possession of a firearm and ammunition is a serious offense, considering he has prior felony convictions in the Superior Court of Guam. As a result, he is prohibited from carrying a firearm or ammunition.

In a statement, U.S. Attorney Alicia A.G. Limtiaco emphasized the importance of protecting innocent civilians and law enforcement officers from armed convicts. Limtiaco noted that Palomo’s prosecution is part of the U.S. Attorney’s commitment to aggressively pursuing defendants who engage in violent crime, as part of the Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN) Initiative.

The investigative efforts of the Guam Police Department and Task Force Officer Katrina Alconaba with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) were commended by Limtiaco. Palomo will serve his 46-month sentence at the Bureau of Prisons facility in Sheridan, Oregon, and will be placed on supervised release for three years after serving his term. He is also required to pay a $200 special assessment fee and attend a substance abuse program.

The case serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of possessing firearms and ammunition as a convicted felon. Palomo’s sentence sends a strong message that such actions will not be tolerated, and those who engage in them will face aggressive prosecution and long prison sentences.
