A man from the Dominican Republic is facing a serious charge for violating federal immigration laws in Pennsylvania.
Rudys Osvaldo Torres, 48, has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Pittsburgh on a charge of violating federal immigration laws, announced United States Attorney Cindy K. Chung.
The indictment alleges that on March 15, 2021, Torres, an alien who had previously been deported and removed from the United States, knowingly, intentionally, and unlawfully reentered the United States.
According to the indictment, Torres was found in Somerset County, Pennsylvania without having applied for and received permission from the Secretary of Homeland Security to reenter the United States.
The law provides for a maximum total sentence of 20 years in prison, a fine of $250,000 or both. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed would be based upon the seriousness of the offenses and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.
Assistant United States Attorney Arnold P. Bernard, Jr. is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government.
The Pennsylvania State Police and the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement conducted the investigation leading to the indictment in this case.
An indictment is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
