CHARLESTON, W.VA. – In a shocking turn of events, a Beckley man was sentenced in federal court for his conviction of felon in possession of a firearm.
David Anthony Lacy, 45, was sentenced to 15 months in prison by United States District Judge Joseph R. Goodwin.
Lacy, who was convicted in a case investigated by the Charleston Police Department, the Beckley Police Department, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), pleaded guilty to the charges.
According to court documents, Lacy admitted to being in possession of a firearm on May 18, 2017, despite being prohibited from doing so due to a prior felony conviction.
Lacy’s guilty plea was accepted by Assistant United States Attorney Chris Arthur, who handled the prosecution.
The case is a prime example of the ongoing efforts to reduce violent crime in West Virginia, as part of the Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) initiative.
PSN is an evidence-based program that focuses on identifying the most pressing violent crime problems in communities and developing comprehensive solutions to address them.
The program works with a broad spectrum of stakeholders, including law enforcement agencies, to enforce laws and prevent crimes.
As part of the initiative, PSN partners with locally based prevention and reentry programs to provide support to those affected by crime and help them reintegrate into society.
The sentencing of David Anthony Lacy serves as a reminder of the importance of addressing violent crime and holding perpetrators accountable for their actions.
