A 30-year-old man from Columbus, Ohio, has admitted to a firearms charge in West Virginia. Demarcus D. Hockett, a 30-year-old man from Columbus, Ohio, has admitted to a firearms charge in West Virginia.
According to court documents, Hockett was accused of having a .380 caliber pistol in June 2019 in Ohio County.
Having been previously convicted of a crime, Hockett pled guilty to one count of ‘Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.’
Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephen L. Vogrin is prosecuting the case on behalf of the government. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and the Wheeling Police Department investigated.
The case was brought as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), the centerpiece of the government’s violent crime reduction efforts.
Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, Hockett faces up to 10 years incarceration and a fine of up to $250,000. The actual sentence imposed will be based upon the seriousness of the offenses and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.
U.S. Magistrate Judge James P. Mazzone presided over the case.
