Tucker County Man Charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm
ELKINS, WEST VIRGINIA – Richard Lee Hollobaugh, a 33-year-old man from Parsons, West Virginia, has been indicted on a firearms charge, announced United States Attorney Bill Powell.
According to the indictment, Hollobaugh is accused of possessing a 9mm pistol in October 2017 in Randolph County, despite having been convicted of four felonies. The charge of ‘Unlawful Possession of a Firearm’ carries a penalty of up to 10 years incarceration and a fine of $250,000.
‘An indictment is merely an accusation,’ warned Attorney General Jeff Sessions. ‘A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.’
The case against Hollobaugh was brought as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and making neighborhoods safer. Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephen D. Warner is prosecuting the case on behalf of the government, with the Bureau of Alcohol, Firearms, Tobacco, and Explosives and the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office assisting in the investigation.
‘The reinvigoration of PSN is a critical component of our effort to tackle the tide of rising violent crime in America,’ said Attorney General Sessions. ‘By working together, we can make our communities safer and stronger.’
Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed will be based upon the seriousness of the offenses and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant. Hollobaugh’s next court appearance is pending.
