Grimy Times Exclusive: A Lowell man has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for possessing child sexual abuse material.
Russell Graham, 42, of Lowell, MA, was handed down the 120-month sentence by a federal court in New Hampshire. Graham was arrested in [date] after communicating online with an undercover law enforcement officer and sending numerous images and videos of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct.
According to court documents and statements made in court, Graham was previously convicted of possession of child pornography in Massachusetts in 2017. The case was investigated by the Nashua Police Department with assistance from Homeland Security Investigations and the New Hampshire Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Kasey A. Weiland and Georgiana MacDonald.
As part of the investigation, a cell phone containing additional child sexual abuse material was seized from Graham at the time of his arrest.
Graham’s sentence is the latest in a string of high-profile cases brought under Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative designed to protect children from online exploitation and abuse.
‘Project Safe Childhood is a critical component of our efforts to keep children safe from online predators,’ said U.S. Attorney Jane E. Young in a statement. ‘We will continue to work tirelessly to identify and prosecute those who exploit children via the Internet.’
The full list of charges against Graham include possession of child sexual abuse material, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison. Graham’s sentence reflects the seriousness of the offense and the need to protect children from those who would harm them.
