New Mexico is grappling with a crime epidemic, but Acting U.S. Attorney Ryan Ellison is vowing to combat it head-on.
Ellison was appointed to serve as New Mexico’s top federal prosecutor on an interim basis on April 17, 2025, and has now been asked to continue in the role by Attorney General Pamela Bondi.
Ellison expressed his gratitude to President Trump and Attorney General Bondi for their confidence in him, and to New Mexico’s federal district judges for declining to appoint someone else to the position.
As Acting U.S. Attorney, Ellison is committed to maintaining the highest level of integrity and professionalism in his office, and to working collaboratively with the legislative branch of government to address the state’s systemic crime problem.
Since his appointment, Ellison has made significant progress in reducing illegal border crossings and increasing prosecutions for violent crime and drug offenses. He has also strengthened partnerships with law enforcement agencies, including the U.S. military and the U.S. Border Patrol.
Ellison’s accomplishments include a 92% decrease in illegal border crossings and a 180% increase in immigration-related prosecutions since his appointment. He has also seen a 23% increase in violent crime prosecutions and a 53% increase in drug prosecutions compared to the four months preceding his appointment.
Despite the challenges facing the state, Ellison remains committed to improving the quality of life in New Mexico by enhancing public safety. He vows to continue working relentlessly to protect its citizens and prosecute those who commit crimes.
With his experience and dedication, Acting U.S. Attorney Ryan Ellison is poised to make a positive impact in New Mexico and ensure that justice is served.
This case is a reminder that law enforcement agencies and federal prosecutors must work together to combat the root causes of crime and make communities safer.
As the situation in New Mexico continues to unfold, one thing is clear: Acting U.S. Attorney Ryan Ellison is committed to doing everything in his power to protect the state’s citizens and keep them safe.
