Ryan Joseph Hribick, a 34-year-old man from Minersville, Pennsylvania, has pleaded guilty to selling illegal explosives, a crime that could put him behind bars for 60 years.
According to the FBI and the Internal Revenue Service, Hribick, formerly of Coatesville, Pennsylvania, possessed, manufactured, and sold improvised explosive devices (IEDs) between March 2009 and February 2013.
The IEDs, made from PVC pipes, nails, screws, rocks, and cardboard tubes, were center-primed with flash powder. Hribick’s actions were investigated by the FBI, the IRS, and various local law enforcement agencies.
When federal agents searched Hribick’s home, he instructed and conspired with others to destroy and conceal evidence, including cardboard tubes and flash powder, to keep it from federal agents and the federal grand jury.
In addition, Hribick attempted to influence the testimony of a federal grand jury witness, advising the witness to lie and conceal the fact that the witness had destroyed and concealed evidence according to Hribick’s instructions.
Hribick faces a maximum possible sentence of 60 years in prison, a $1 million fine, 3 years of supervised release, and a $400 special assessment. His sentencing is scheduled for July 17, 2015.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Internal Revenue Service’s Criminal Investigation Division, the Philadelphia Police Bomb Disposal Unit, the Montgomery County Bomb Squad, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, the East Whiteland Police Department, the East Whiteland Fire Department, the Malvern Fire Department, the Chester County District Attorney’s Office, the Maryland State Police, and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation.
Assistant United States Attorney Vineet Gauri is prosecuting the case.
