Anthony Coates, Methamphetamine Distribution, California 2024

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A federal grand jury has brought down the hammer on Anthony Coates, a 28-year-old Sacramento man, by indicting him on two counts of methamphetamine distribution.

According to court documents, Coates had a busy few months in 2024. In March, he distributed a whopping 1 pound of methamphetamine, and just a month later, in April, he managed to move an even larger quantity – 3 pounds of the highly addictive substance.

This case is the result of a joint investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, with assistance from the High-Intensity Drug-Trafficking Area Task Force. Assistant U.S. Attorney Haddy Abouzeid is handling the prosecution.

Coates now faces a maximum statutory penalty of life in prison and a $10 million fine for each count. But don’t get it twisted – the sentence will ultimately be determined by the court after considering various factors and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.

The charges are just allegations at this point, and Coates is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. But one thing’s for sure – if he’s found guilty, he’ll be trading in his freedom for a one-way ticket to a maximum-security prison.

The federal authorities have made it clear that they won’t be tolerating this kind of activity in their backyard. With Coates now facing the music, it’s clear that those involved in the methamphetamine trade in Sacramento better watch their backs.
