Sacramento Man Gets 46 Months for Mail Fraud Conspiracy
Sacramento, CA – In a shocking case of mail fraud, Norman Thompson, 36, of Sacramento, has been sentenced to 46 months in prison and ordered to pay $38,086.75 in restitution.
According to court documents, Thompson conspired with his co-defendants, Joshua Yadon and Latomba Bishop, to obtain credit cards, checks, credit reports, and merchandise in other peoples’ names using the victims’ stolen personal identifying information. The conspirators then filed fraudulent mail forwarding requests and vacation holds with the U.S. Postal Service to divert those items from the victims’ true addresses into the conspirators’ possession.
This brazen scheme lasted from October 2016 through May 2017, with the conspirators using the victims’ stolen information to get their hands on valuable items. The consequences of their actions are now being felt, with Thompson facing a lengthy prison sentence and a hefty restitution bill.
The case was the product of an investigation by the United States Postal Inspection Service. Assistant United States Attorney Jeremy J. Kelley prosecuted the case.
Charges are still pending against Johsua Yadon and Latomba Bishop. It is essential to remember that charges are only allegations; these individuals are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
Thompson’s sentence serves as a stark reminder of the serious consequences of mail fraud. The U.S. Postal Inspection Service will continue to crack down on such schemes, working tirelessly to protect the public from those who would seek to exploit their personal information.
As the investigation continues, one thing is clear: Norman Thompson will be spending the next three years and eight months behind bars, a fate he has earned through his involvement in this heinous crime.
