GRAFTON, TX – In a stunning blow to the fentanyl trade, Adrian Warren, 33, also known as ‘Peanut,’ was sentenced on Friday to 30 years in federal prison for operating a fentanyl pill-pressing operation. U.S. Attorney Leigha Simonton announced the sentence.
Warren, who pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute controlled substances in October 2022, faced Judge Reed C. O’Connor’s stern judgment. His co-defendants, Joanna Martinez-Otero, 28, and Jamie Rodriguez, 39, also received significant sentences for their roles in the drug ring.
Martinez-Otero was sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for maintaining a drug involved premises, while Rodriguez, who pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute controlled substances in September 2022, will serve nearly 11 years. The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) has seized the pill press used by Warren.
“Fentanyl is tearing through our communities at an alarming rate, poisoning our friends, family members, and worst of all, our children,” Simonton warned. “We will not rest until we stop this killer drug from circulating in our neighborhoods.”
The investigation began when DEA agents learned that Warren was manufacturing counterfeit pills using a pill press machine in Fort Worth. They discovered that he had purchased over two dozen kilograms of excipient, a binder used in pill production. His associates also bought large quantities of excipients in various colors.
Agents conducted surveillance and followed leads that led them to Rodriguez’s involvement. They witnessed the exchange of a backpack containing approximately 2,000 counterfeit pills at a storage facility. During their pursuit of Warren, agents observed his truck skid off the road after he fled from surveillance, but the fugitive managed to escape.
