Charles S. Wilson Jr., Marijuana Cultivation and Distribution, Ohio 2013

The grimy streets of Salem, Ohio are witnessing a new chapter in the war on drugs as Charles S. Wilson, Jr., 40, and Sandra R. Wilson, 42, have been hit with a six-count federal indictment.

United States Attorney Steven M. Dettelbach announced that the couple, both residents of Salem, are accused of conspiracy; cultivation and distribution of marijuana; possession with intent to distribute and distribution of marijuana; maintaining a residence for distributing marijuana; conspiracy to launder money and actual money laundering.

The charges stem from an alleged scheme starting in June 2013 and continuing through September 2013. According to the indictment, the Wilsons conspired with others to cultivate over 100 marijuana plants, which they planned to distribute. Their home in Salem was used as a base for this operation.

In addition to drug charges, the couple is also accused of conspiracy to launder monetary instruments and engaging in financial transactions using proceeds from marijuana trafficking. The severity of their sentences will depend on factors including their prior criminal records and roles in the offense, with maximum penalties stipulated by law.

The investigation was led by the Drug Enforcement Administration, while Assistant United States Attorney David M. Toepfer is handling the prosecution. It’s important to note that an indictment merely charges a crime and does not prove guilt; defendants are entitled to a fair trial where the government must prove its case beyond a reasonable doubt.
