Samantha Harp, Contraband Smuggling, Louisiana 2024

LAKE CHARLES, La. – Samantha Harp, a former Corrections Officer at the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) in Oakdale, Louisiana, has been convicted of smuggling contraband into prison and lying to federal agents, according to United States Attorney Brandon B. Brown.

Harp, 37, from Rapides Parish, was found guilty by a federal jury after a two-day trial. She was convicted of one count of making false statements to a federal agent. The case was presided over by United States District Judge James D. Cain, Jr.

Testimony revealed that Harp exchanged text messages and phone calls with an inmate’s family member while employed at the FCI in Oakdale. She received payments for introducing contraband through the Cash App mobile application just days before the incident. When questioned by agents from the Department of Justice, Office of Inspector General, she denied all involvement.

Despite her denials, evidence from Harp’s cell phone records and Cash App transactions contradicted her claims. The jury agreed that Harp was indeed involved in smuggling and lying to federal authorities.

Harp faces a sentence of up to 5 years in prison, 3 years of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000. Sentencing is scheduled for November 21, 2024.

This conviction was the result of an investigation by the Department of Justice, Office of Inspector General, and prosecution by Assistant United States Attorneys John W. Nickel and Danny Siefker.
