Shocking revelations from the San Antonio District Court as 24-year-old Paul Martinez is handed a 12-year federal prison sentence for distributing child pornography. United States Attorney John F. Bash and FBI Special Agent Christopher Combs announced the harsh punishment today.
Martinez, who pleaded guilty in October last year, admitted to exchanging explicit content featuring prepubescent children online back in January 2016. The evidence was chilling: a search warrant executed by federal authorities in September 2016 uncovered numerous videos and images of minors engaged in sexually explicit acts on Martinez’s electronic devices.
Senior District Judge David A. Ezra didn’t mince words, ordering Martinez to pay $5,000 in restitution to any identified victim and to be under supervised release for five years following his prison term. Assistant U.S. Attorney Tracy Thompson led the prosecution.
The case is a part of Project Safe Childhood, the Justice Department’s relentless campaign against online exploitation since 2006. The initiative has been pivotal in identifying and apprehending predators who target children via the Internet.
