David Sanchez, 28-Store Robbery Spree, California 2024

A San Bernardino man has been sentenced to 6 years in federal prison after robbing 28 stores in Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties during a five-month crime spree.

David Sanchez, 41, was sentenced by United States District Judge Mark C. Scarsi to 72 months in federal prison for his role in the robberies, which took place from November 2020 to April 2021.

Sanchez pleaded guilty on June 21 to two counts of interference with commerce by robbery, and admitted to robbing fast food restaurants and retail stores in several cities, including Lynwood, Long Beach, South Gate, San Bernardino, Palmdale, Compton, Whittier, Fontana and Bellflower.

The robberies targeted Walgreens, Circle K, Little Caesar’s Pizza, Subway, El Rey Supermarket, Lynwood Farmer’s Market, Family Dollar Store, Starbucks, Domino’s Pizza and Dollar Tree outlets, and netted a total of at least $3,853.

Sanchez brandished what appeared to be a firearm – but was in fact a BB gun – and demanded money from the cash registers in each robbery.

The FBI and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department investigated the matter, and Assistant United States Attorney Kevin J. Butler of the Violent and Organized Crime Section prosecuted the case.

The sentencing memorandum for the case noted that the robberies left lasting stress and trauma on the victims, who were forced to return to work at the same locations and interact with customers who may have been present during the robberies.

Sanchez will begin serving his sentence immediately, and will have to pay restitution to the victims.
