San Felipe Man Lands 4 Years for Abusive Sexual Contact of a Minor

ALBUQUERQUE, NM – A federal judge dealt a harsh sentence to a San Felipe man who was found guilty of making unwanted advances on a minor.

Kyle Aguilar, who was convicted of abusive sexual contact, will spend the next 48 months behind bars. The sentence was handed down by a federal judge in New Mexico.

According to evidence presented at trial and other publicly available court records, Aguilar, while intoxicated, touched the victim’s genitalia and breasts over her clothing on multiple occasions between August 13, 2016, and February 13, 2017.

One instance in particular was particularly disturbing, as Aguilar unlocked the door to the room where the victim was watching a movie, came into the room, and began massaging the victim’s back before touching her breasts and genitals over her clothes.

The victim suffered physical and emotional trauma as a result of Aguilar’s actions, and their trust was irreparably damaged.

Aguilar will be subject to 5 years of supervised release upon his release from prison and must register as a sex offender.

U.S. Attorney Alexander M.M. Uballez made the announcement today, stating that justice had been served.

The Bureau of Indian Affairs investigated this case, and Assistant United States Attorneys Nicholas J. Marshall and Mia Ulibarri-Rubin are prosecuting the case.

Aguilar’s sentence is a harsh reminder that abusive behavior will not be tolerated in our society. The victim’s bravery in coming forward and testifying against Aguilar is a testament to their strength and resilience.

This case serves as a warning to would-be predators that they will be held accountable for their actions.
