Baltimore-based con artist Sarah Beth Clendaniel, 38, is behind bars after a string of high-profile scams left a trail of financial devastation in her wake.
According to court documents, Clendaniel’s elaborate scheme involved posing as a financial advisor to unsuspecting victims, duping them into investing millions in fake business ventures.
The brazen scammer’s modus operandi was to create fake companies, websites, and social media profiles to legitimize her fake business dealings. She would then use these to swindle her marks out of hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Clendaniel’s scheme was uncovered by federal authorities after a concerned citizen came forward with allegations of financial malfeasance. An investigation was launched, and evidence was gathered, leading to her arrest and indictment.
Clendaniel is charged with multiple counts of wire fraud, mail fraud, and conspiracy to commit securities fraud. If convicted on all counts, she faces up to 20 years in prison and a hefty fine.
