California Woman Sentenced for Counterfeit Federal Reserve Notes

A California woman has been sentenced to two years in federal prison for passing counterfeit Federal Reserve notes in Florida.

Savannah Symone Duncan, 24, of Los Angeles, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Thomas P. Barber for passing or uttering counterfeit Federal Reserve notes.

The charges stem from an incident on April 28, 2021, when Duncan passed counterfeit $20 bills to cashiers at multiple CVS stores and a Michaels store in Fort Myers, Florida. The total amount of counterfeit currency passed was approximately $2,640.

The counterfeit bills were used to purchase gift cards, which was captured on store surveillance footage.

The case was investigated by the United States Secret Service and the Lee County Sheriff’s Office. It was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Trent Reichling.

According to court documents, Duncan pleaded guilty on November 23, 2021, to the charges of passing or uttering counterfeit Federal Reserve notes.

Duncan, who was sentenced on an unspecified date, was ordered to serve two years in federal prison for her crimes.

The United States Secret Service and the Lee County Sheriff’s Office worked together to investigate the case, which resulted in Duncan’s guilty plea and subsequent sentencing.
