Frankie Maldonado, Production of Child Pornography, Louisiana 2014

Alexandria, La. – A South Carolina man has been handed a 40-year sentence for producing child pornography and traveling to Louisiana to sexually exploit a juvenile.

Frankie Maldonado, 51, of Reevesville, S.C., was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Dee D. Drell on two counts of production of child pornography and one count of traveling in interstate commerce for the purpose of engaging in illicit sexual conduct with a minor. He was also sentenced to five years of supervised release and must register as a sex offender.

The federal jury found Maldonado guilty following a trial that concluded on January 4, 2017. Evidence presented during the trial revealed that Maldonado had been in contact with the victim, who was then 15, since she was about four years old, through his friendship with her father. He sent explicit pictures to her via text messaging and later convinced her to engage in sexually explicit conduct while he watched on Skype.

Maldonado traveled to Louisiana in June 2014 to meet the girl, picking her up and taking her to a motel where they engaged in sexual acts while producing images of their actions.

The case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations, Louisiana State Police, Beauregard Parish Sheriff’s Office, Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office, and Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorneys John Luke Walker and Jamilla A. Bynog prosecuted the case.

This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative by the U.S. Department of Justice to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. For more information on reporting suspected child predators, the public can call (866) 347-2423 or submit tips online at www.ice.gov.
