September 14, 1918, will go down in history as the day the city of Bismarck, North Dakota, was shaken to its core. The initial draft class of the selective service had just been announced, and a staggering number of men from the capital city were called to account. Almost 50 percent of the total registrants, a whopping 334 men, were included in the first draft class.
