Seminole Man Sentenced for 2nd Degree Murder
A Seminole County man has been sentenced to 13.5 years in federal prison for his role in a deadly shooting in Indian Country. Douglas Vaughn Switch Jr., 47, of Seminole, was sentenced to 168 months in prison for one count of Second Degree Murder in Indian Country.
The charges against Switch arose from investigations by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office, and the Seminole Nation Lighthorse Police Department. Switch pleaded guilty to the charge on September 25, 2023.
Prosecutors say that on the evening of October 23, 2022, Switch fired a single round from a .380 pistol, killing the victim instantly. Responding law enforcement officers discovered Switch pressing the .380 pistol to his own chin and sitting beside the body of the deceased on the front porch of a Seminole residence.
The crime occurred in Seminole County, within the boundaries of the Seminole Nation Reservation, in the Eastern District of Oklahoma. U.S. District Judge Keith Starrett presided over the hearing in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Switch will remain in the custody of the U.S. Marshal pending transportation to a designated United States Bureau of Prisons facility.
Assistant United States Attorney Erin Cornell represented the United States in the case. The sentence imposed by Judge Starrett will be served without the possibility of parole. Switch’s conviction marks another in a string of high-profile cases in the Eastern District of Oklahoma.
