Albany, NY – Seven individuals from Albany and Troy have been charged in a $7.1 million global fraud scheme, according to a recent press release from Google Fraud News.
On March 15, 2023, the defendants were charged with various counts of conspiracy, wire fraud, and money laundering in connection with the scheme.
The indictment alleges that the defendants used fake online personas and manipulated online reviews to deceive victims into investing in a fake cryptocurrency scheme.
The case is being investigated by the FBI and the U.S. Department of Justice, with assistance from the New York State Police and the Albany County District Attorney’s Office.
