Kenneth Joseph Coombs, a 58-year-old Collinsville man and registered sex offender, pleaded guilty to engaging in illicit sexual conduct with eight minors in Nepal between August and September 2016. Coombs traveled from the US to Nepal, where he sexually abused the children, using a combination of force, involuntary intoxication, and payments. He also took photos of the children, which were later recovered by law enforcement from his electronic devices.
Coombs was required to register as a sex offender due to a prior conviction in Missouri. He was arrested by US law enforcement in September 2025 upon his return to the US and has been held in custody since then.
The investigation involved multiple agencies, including the FBI Springfield Field Office, the Central Investigation Bureau of Nepal, and the US Embassy in Nepal. The case was prosecuted by the US Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Illinois, with assistance from the Justice Department’s Criminal Division.
The guilty plea brings long-overdue accountability for Coombs’ predatory and devastating conduct, according to US Attorney Steven D. Weinhoeft. The case demonstrates the commitment of US law enforcement to pursuing justice for victims of child exploitation, no matter where the crimes occur.
