Shaheim Price, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Ohio 2017

Shaheim Price, 23, of Wintersville, Ohio, is facing federal time after being indicted on a charge of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm. The indictment, handed down by a federal grand jury in Wheeling, West Virginia, stems from an alleged incident in Ohio County in October 2017.

According to court documents, Price, a convicted felon, was found in possession of a 9mm pistol—a violation of federal law that bars individuals with felony convictions from owning or handling firearms. The charge carries a maximum penalty of 10 years behind bars and a fine of up to $250,000.

U.S. Attorney Bill Powell confirmed the indictment, emphasizing that federal authorities continue to crack down on illegal gun possession, particularly involving individuals with violent or serious criminal histories. “Firearms in the wrong hands fuel crime and endanger communities,” Powell stated.

The investigation was jointly conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Wheeling Police Department. Details surrounding the recovery of the weapon and the circumstances of Price’s apprehension remain under official review but are believed to be tied to unrelated surveillance.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Steven L. Vogrin is prosecuting the case. As per federal sentencing guidelines, if convicted, Price’s sentence will reflect both the severity of the offense and any prior criminal record the defendant may hold.

An indictment is not a conviction. Shaheim Price is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law. His arraignment is scheduled for the next federal court session in Wheeling.
