Michigan Man Charged with Attempted Kidnapping of Minor Child in Canada

A 46-year-old naturalized United States citizen from Pakistan residing in Wayne County, Michigan, has been charged with attempting to kidnap a minor child in Canada, according to a criminal complaint unsealed today in federal court.

Shahzad Hameedi, a.k.a. Sheraz Hameed, began dating a single mother in Windsor, Canada, under the alternate name Sheraz Hameed. However, after she restricted his access to her minor child, Hameedi allegedly embarked on an operation to kidnap the child in June 2025.

According to the complaint, Hameedi researched tranquilizers and assembled items such as a stun gun, a toddler life vest, zip ties, duct tape, rubber gloves, and strong cold medication with a funnel. He then surreptitiously crossed the border to Canada and entered the child’s home at night, where he tried to strangle the mother before being chased away.

Two days later, Hameedi returned to the home and assaulted the child. U.S. Attorney Jerome F. Gorgon, Jr. described Hameedi’s alleged plan as “diabolical” and vowed to bring the full force of the law against violent predators.

“No parent or child should ever be subjected to this wickedness,” Gorgon said. “We will bring the full force of the law against violent predators.”

Homeland Security Investigations and the Windsor Police Service are investigating the case, with the assistance of U.S. Attorneys Ann Nee, Matthew Roth, and Eaton Brown. The case is ongoing, and Hameedi is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
