A devastating fentanyl conspiracy case has come to an end in Maine. On August 26, 2019, law enforcement agents seized approximately three kilograms of the deadly substance from Shane Seavey, 40, and his father Craig Seavey, 67, both of Baileyville.
The agents had been investigating the pair for their role in a fentanyl trafficking ring that distributed the substance throughout New England. The operation was conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Portsmouth Tactical Diversion Squad and the Maine State Police.
According to court records, the Seaveys conspired with others to distribute fentanyl between August 2018 and August 26, 2019. The drugs were acquired in Lawrence, Massachusetts and sold to others for distribution throughout the region.
Shane Seavey was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge George Z. Singal to 92 months in prison and three years of supervised release for conspiracy to distribute and possessing with intent to distribute 400 grams or more of fentanyl.
Craig Seavey received a sentence of time served and three years of supervised release for the same charges.
The investigation was part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) probe. OCDETF uses a prosecutor-led, intelligence-driven, multi-agency approach to target the highest-level drug traffickers and dismantle their networks.
U.S. Attorney Darcie N. McElwee announced the sentences, bringing closure to this case and a measure of justice to the community.
