Shannon D. Concho, Brandishing a Firearm, New Mexico 2014

ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico – In a shocking turn of events, Shannon D. Concho, a 36-year-old member of Zuni Pueblo, was sentenced to seven years in federal prison followed by two years of supervised release for brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence.

According to sources, Concho was arrested in October 2012 on an indictment charging him with three counts of assault with a dangerous weapon (a shotgun), being a felon in possession of a firearm, and brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence. The charges stem from an incident that occurred on October 2, 2011, within Zuni Pueblo.

At the time of the incident, Concho was prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition due to his previous convictions for involuntary manslaughter and aggravated assault. Concho’s actions were described as a brazen display of violence, with him pointing a 12-gauge shotgun at one man’s head and pushing the muzzle of the shotgun into the second man.

Concho pleaded guilty to Count 5 of the indictment, charging him with brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence. In his plea agreement, Concho admitted to brandishing the shotgun during and in furtherance of a crime of violence. The investigation was led by the Zuni Pueblo Tribal Police Department, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Jacob A. Wishard handling the prosecution.
