Counterfeiting Ring Busted in Bakersfield

FRESNO, Calif. – In a shocking turn of events, a local woman was sentenced to 2.5 years in prison for her role in a counterfeiting operation that spanned nearly a year.

Shannon Nicole Johannsen, 35, of Bakersfield, was sentenced by United States District Judge Lawrence J. O’Neill for counterfeiting U.S. currency and possessing images of currency for counterfeiting purposes, United States Attorney Benjamin B. Wagner announced.

According to court documents, Johannsen counterfeited Federal Reserve Notes in $100 and other denominations from October 2012 to March 2013. She also possessed computers, printers, paints, powders, cleaning agents, and numerous digital images of U.S. currency.
