White Horse Man Charged with Assault
White Horse, SD – Shawn Traversie, 34, has been charged with Assault With a Dangerous Weapon and Assault Resulting in Substantial Bodily Injury to an Intimate Partner.
According to court documents, Traversie was indicted by a federal grand jury on April 9, 2019, for his alleged involvement in the assault, which occurred on January 27, 2019.
The maximum penalty upon conviction is up to 10 years in federal prison and/or a $250,000 fine, 3 years of supervised release, and $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. Restitution may also be ordered.
Traversie appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark A. Moreno on April 16, 2019, and pled not guilty to the Indictment.
The investigation is being conducted by the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jay Miller is prosecuting the case.
Traversie was released on bond pending trial. A trial date has not been set.
