Buffalo Man Going To Prison For Being A Felon In Possession Of Ammunition

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Shelby Holcomb, 33, of Buffalo, NY, who was convicted of being a felon in possession of ammunition, was sentenced to serve 30 months in prison by U.S. District Judge Richard J. Arcara.

According to the investigation, in August 2007, Holcomb was convicted of robbery in Erie County Court and as a result is legally prohibited from possessing ammunition. On June 12, 2019, the Buffalo Police Department executed a search warrant at his Olympic Avenue residence and recovered 119 rounds of ammunition.

The sentencing is the result of an investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge John B. Devito, New York Field Division; the Buffalo Police Department, under the direction of Commissioner Byron Lockwood; and the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision, under the direction of Acting Commissioner Anthony J. Annucci.

Prosecutors, led by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Brendan T. Cullinane and Meghan E. Leydecker, handled the case and said Holcomb’s actions put the community at risk.

Holcomb’s sentence was handed down on an exact date that wasn’t specified in the press release. It is unclear if he will serve his sentence in federal or state custody. The investigation into the case was a collaborative effort between local and federal agencies.
