Aaron Troquille, Ammunition Possession, LA 2024

A Shreveport man with a felony record is facing federal prison after admitting he possessed .40-caliber ammunition in his home following a domestic abuse call. Aaron Troquille, 32, pleaded guilty today in U.S. District Court to a federal weapons charge, marking the latest fall from grace for a man already known to law enforcement.

The trouble began April 18, 2018, when Shreveport Police responded to a frantic 911 call from Troquille’s residence on Amie Street. Officers found a victim alleging abuse, and after taking statements, arrested Troquille on state charges. During questioning, Troquille made a fatal admission—he had ammunition stashed inside the house.

Police executed a search and recovered the .40-caliber rounds without incident. The discovery triggered a federal investigation, since Troquille had been convicted of possession with intent to distribute marijuana in Caddo Parish on May 18, 2011. That felony conviction stripped him of his right to possess any firearm or ammunition under federal law.

The case was pursued by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) in tandem with the Shreveport Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney J. Aaron Crawford handled the prosecution, building a straightforward case based on Troquille’s own admission and the physical evidence seized.

Now, Troquille faces the full weight of federal sentencing guidelines: up to 10 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, and three years of supervised release. No plea deal cushioned the blow—just a guilty plea entered before U.S. District Judge Elizabeth E. Foote, who has scheduled sentencing for August 26, 2019.

Troquille’s case underscores a relentless truth in federal prosecutions: for felons, even a single round of ammunition is a crime with years behind bars. In a city grappling with violent crime, authorities are cracking down hard on illegal gun and ammo possession—one conviction at a time.
