A federal jury has found Shue Moua, 35, guilty of possession with the intent to distribute methamphetamine in a trial that lasted three days in Duluth, Minnesota. U.S. Attorney Andrew M. Luger announced the verdict, which was reached after a jury heard evidence presented during the trial.
Moua was convicted on one count of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. The sentencing hearing for Moua has not yet been scheduled. According to the evidence presented at trial, Moua was pulled over by a Carlton County Deputy after the officer witnessed her erratic driving on March 2, 2023. During the traffic stop, Moua presented an expired Wisconsin driver’s license and admitted she did not have a valid license or insurance coverage.
The deputy observed signs of impairment, including bloodshot eyes and slurred speech, and conducted a series of field sobriety tests, which Moua failed. After initially consenting to a search of her vehicle, Moua revoked her consent and was subsequently arrested for suspected impaired driving. A search of her person prior to her arrest revealed $634 in cash, and while conducting an inventory of her vehicle prior to impoundment, officers discovered approximately two pounds of methamphetamine and unused plastic baggies.
The case was the result of an investigation conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Carlton County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Matthew D. Evans and Michael P. McBride tried the case.
The evidence presented during the trial highlighted Moua’s suspicious behavior and the discovery of a significant amount of methamphetamine in her vehicle. The guilty verdict is a significant step in holding individuals accountable for their involvement in the illicit drug trade.
Shue Moua’s conviction serves as a reminder of the importance of community vigilance in reporting suspicious activity and the dedication of law enforcement agencies to combating the scourge of methamphetamine trafficking.
As the investigation and prosecution of this case demonstrate, the federal government is committed to working with local law enforcement to disrupt and dismantle the networks involved in the trafficking of illicit substances.
