A Mexican citizen has been charged with alien smuggling in Maine, authorities announced.
Silvino ORDUNA-Cabrera, a 40-year-old Mexican citizen, made his initial appearance in U.S. District Court in Portland, Maine with respect to a criminal complaint charging alien smuggling on July 26, 2017.
According to authorities, an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Deportation Officer arrested the defendant in Maine.
The defendant is accused of alien smuggling, a federal crime. A criminal complaint is merely an accusation and a defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
Two other Mexican citizens who had previously been removed from the United States appeared with respect to complaints charging them with re-entry after removal.
The case is pending further court proceedings.
