Jose Antonio Torres Marrufo, Racketeering, Texas 2024

EL PASO, TEXAS – Jose Antonio Torres Marrufo, alias ‘Jaguar,’ a high-ranking member of the notorious Sinaloa Cartel, has been extradited from Mexico to face federal racketeering charges in Texas. The 62-year-old criminal kingpin is accused of orchestrating drug trafficking operations that terrorized the El Paso and Juarez area.

U.S. Attorney John F. Bash, DEA Special Agent in Charge Kyle W. Williamson, FBI Special Agent in Charge Emmerson Buie, Jr., and ATF Special Agent in Charge Jeffrey C. Boshek, II, have confirmed Torres Marrufo’s extradition. He remains in federal custody, set to appear in court tomorrow.

‘Through our collaboration with Mexican authorities, we are ensuring that cartel leaders face justice,’ Williamson stated. ‘This extradition is a stark reminder that no matter where they hide, we will bring them to account.’

FBI Special Agent Buie praised Mexico’s role in the investigation, emphasizing the cooperative efforts between U.S. and Mexican law enforcement agencies. ‘The cooperation disrupts the Sinaloa Cartel’s operations and protects our citizens from their terror,’ Buie said.

ATF Special Agent Boshek echoed the sentiment of unity against criminal organizations. ‘No one should have to endure the brutality described in these charges. Our joint efforts send a clear message about our commitment to investigate and prosecute these organizations,’ he added.

Torres Marrufo was initially charged alongside drug lord Joaquin Guzman Loera, alias ‘El Chapo,’ in 2012. The indictment includes multiple counts of conspiracy, including drug trafficking, money laundering, murder, and violent crimes in aid of racketeering. The Sinaloa Cartel is accused of smuggling large quantities of drugs into the U.S., using proceeds to purchase assets and maintain control through brutal means.
