On March 11, 2020, a federal indictment was filed against Juan Carlos Sorto-Ramos in the United States District Court for the District of Maryland.
The indictment alleged that Sorto-Ramos was involved in a violent crime that took place on February 28, 2020, in Baltimore, Maryland.
According to the indictment, Sorto-Ramos was charged with one count of attempted murder in aid of racketeering, and one count of discharging a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence.
The indictment also alleged that Sorto-Ramos was a member of a racketeering enterprise, and that he used a firearm to commit the violent crime.
The case was assigned to Judge Deborah K. Chasanow, who ordered Sorto-Ramos to be held without bail pending trial.
On January 18, 2022, Sorto-Ramos pleaded guilty to both counts of the indictment.
As part of his plea agreement, Sorto-Ramos admitted to shooting at a victim during an altercation, and to being a member of a racketeering enterprise.
On March 18, 2022, Sorto-Ramos was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison by Judge Chasanow.
