Spencer Jacob Rinehart, Meth Trafficking, South Dakota 2022

A 29-year-old Mobridge man has been sentenced to five years in federal prison for methamphetamine trafficking, the Grimy Times has learned.

U.S. Attorney Alison J. Ramsdell announced that Spencer Jacob Rinehart was sentenced on June 6, 2022 by U.S. District Judge Charles B. Kornmann for his role in conspiring to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine in Mobridge, South Dakota.

Rinehart, 29, was convicted of Conspiracy to Distribute Methamphetamine. He was sentenced to 60 months in federal prison, with five years of supervised release to follow. A fine of $1,000 and a special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund in the amount of $100 were also levied.

The defendant was indicted by a federal grand jury on April 13, 2021. He pleaded guilty on December 7, 2021.

According to court documents, Rinehart knowingly and intentionally conspired with others to distribute methamphetamine in Mobridge between January 1, 2017 and April 29, 2020.

The investigation into Rinehart’s activities was a collaborative effort between the Mobridge Police Department, the Northern Plains Safe Trails Drug Enforcement Task Force, the Corson County Sheriff’s Office, the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services, and the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Office of Justice Services. Assistant U.S. Attorney Cameron J. Cook prosecuted the case.

Rinehart was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals.
