Spencerport Tax Cheat Pleads Guilty

Buffalo, N.Y. – In a stunning display of fiscal irresponsibility, Jay Chapman, a 47-year-old Spencerport man, pleaded guilty to filing a false income tax return, sparking outrage among local residents.

According to officials, Chapman, in 2007, filed a personal income tax return but failed to report business income in the staggering amount of $118,971. This egregious oversight has landed him in hot water with the law.

U.S. Attorney William J. Hochul, Jr. made the announcement, emphasizing the severity of Chapman’s actions. ‘The charge carries a maximum penalty of three years in prison, a $100,000 fine or both,’ Hochul warned.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Bradley E. Tyler revealed that the investigation was a collaborative effort between the Internal Revenue Service, Criminal Investigation Division, under the direction of Shantelle P. Kitchen, Acting Special Agent in Charge, New York Field Office.

Chapman’s sentencing is set for September 17, 2014, before Judge David G. Larimer. While the community breathes a sigh of relief, many are left wondering how such a blatant disregard for tax laws went unchecked for so long.

As Grimy Times continues to investigate this developing story, one thing is clear: tax cheats will not be tolerated in our community.
