Donna Jean Shafer, 53, of Spiro, Oklahoma, has been sentenced to a staggering 150 months imprisonment for her role in a methamphetamine distribution conspiracy. The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma announced the sentence, which also includes 48 months of supervised release.
This landmark sentence comes after an extensive investigation by the District 16 District Attorney’s Drug Task Force and the Drug Enforcement Administration. Shafer was indicted in March 2014 and pled guilty in August of that year.
The indictment outlined a conspiracy that began in or about early 2011 and continued until late December 2013. During this period, Shafer is alleged to have combined, conspired, confederated, and agreed with others to possess with intent to distribute and distribute at least 500 grams of methamphetamine, a Schedule II controlled substance.
Presiding over the hearing was Honorable Ronald A. White, District Judge in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, in Muskogee. Shafer will remain in custody of the United States Marshal Service while awaiting transportation to the federal facility where she will serve her nonparolable sentence.
Assistant United States Attorney Shannon Henson represented the United States in this case.
This sentencing serves as a stark reminder of the repercussions for those who engage in drug trafficking and distribution, particularly when it involves the dangerous substance of methamphetamine. Shafer’s sentence sends a clear message that such activities will not be tolerated and will result in severe punishment.
