Oscar Barrios, Child Porn Distribution, Texas 2024

HOUSTON – In a chilling turn of justice, 35-year-old Spring resident Oscar Barrios has been sentenced to a staggering 144 months for distributing, receiving, and possessing child sexual abuse material. The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Alamdar S. Hamdani.

Barrios, who pleaded guilty on November 30, 2023, has now been handed down consecutive sentences of 144 months for distribution and receipt of child pornography and an additional 120 months for possession, totaling a 144-month term. The court emphasized his breach of trust as a father with minor children in the household, ordering him to pay $20,500 in restitution to the victims. Following his prison term, Barrios will serve five years of supervised release, during which he must comply with strict restrictions on access to children and the internet.

Barrios was apprehended after distributing and receiving child pornography on platforms like Kik and Discord. His involvement in a chatroom called “Pedo Lives Matter,” where members traded explicit material, was especially disturbing. He made statements expressing his sexual interest in a minor female relative within the chatroom. A search of his electronic devices revealed 66 videos and one image of child pornography.

Barrios will remain in custody until transferred to a U.S. Bureau of Prisons facility. The FBI conducted the investigation with assistance from the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Rebekah Saunders and Christine Lu are prosecuting the case, which is part of Project Safe Childhood (PSC), the DOJ’s initiative to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.
