SPRINGFIELD, MO – A Springfield man is facing federal charges after a brazen attack on a United States Postal Service employee. Courtney J. Ellis, 45, was formally indicted by a federal grand jury this week, escalating the case from a June 23rd felony criminal complaint.
The incident occurred June 18th, 2025, at Ellis’s residence. According to court documents, Ellis allegedly struck the mail carrier – delivering on the route for the first time – directly on the head with a wooden board. The victim was in full USPS uniform and operating a clearly marked USPS delivery vehicle when the assault took place.
