BOSTON – In a dramatic plea today, Springfield’s Alberto Correa-Martinez, 26, admitted guilt to multiple counts of drug trafficking, including conspiracy and distribution of heroin and cocaine.
The defendant was caught red-handed on several occasions. On July 23, 2013, Correa-Martinez sold drugs to an undercover agent, followed by another sale on July 31. Just a stone’s throw from the state courthouse, on August 6, he met with an associate to sell more cocaine, all captured on video.
Correa-Martinez faces stiff penalties for his actions, with each charge carrying up to 20 years in prison, supervised release, and a fine of $1 million. However, federal sentences are often less than the maximums set by law.
The sentencing hearing is scheduled for June 17, 2015, before U.S. District Judge Timothy S. Hillman. This case was brought to light by Assistant U.S. Attorney Deepika Bains Shukla and the Boston Field Division of the ATF, who worked tirelessly to bring justice to Springfield.
United States Attorney Carmen M. Ortiz and Special Agent in Charge Daniel J. Kumor emphasized the severity of drug trafficking in our community, reminding us that law enforcement will continue its relentless pursuit to keep our streets safe.
