SPRINGFIELD – A Springfield man has been dealt a severe blow to his freedom after being sentenced today for his role in a drug-distribution conspiracy. Radames Perez, 39, faced U.S. District Court Judge Mark G. Mastroianni, who handed down a sentence of 41 months in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release.
Perez’s criminal activities were put on full display when he pleaded guilty to two counts of conspiracy to distribute cocaine back in January 2017. The court documents reveal that Perez conspired with an individual who was working with federal agents, leading to a video and audio recording of the drug transaction that sealed his fate.
The plot thickened on January 29, 2014, when Perez is alleged to have agreed to distribute more than one kilogram of cocaine. His partnership in this crime was caught on tape, leaving little room for doubt about his involvement in the illicit trade.
U.S. Attorney William D. Weinreb and DEA Special Agent in Charge Michael J. Ferguson Boston Field Division broke the news of Perez’s sentencing, emphasizing the importance of their ongoing fight against drug trafficking. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Neil L. Desroches and Deepika Bains Shukla from Weinreb’s Springfield Branch Office were responsible for prosecuting the case.
As this sentence sends a stark message to those who traffic in drugs, it also serves as a testament to the effectiveness of law enforcement cooperation. The justice system has once again shown its power to mete out punishment for those who seek to profit from the suffering of others through illegal means.
