Endicott Man Sentenced for Spygate Scandal
A shocking case of workplace sabotage has come to an end in the Southern Tier. Ryan Letcher, 39, of Endicott, has been sentenced for writing a false letter accusing his former boss of being a foreign intelligence officer.
Letcher, a former employee of BAE Systems, made the false accusations in March 2012. The anonymous letter sparked a full-blown investigation, which ultimately led to his downfall. In a stunning display of deceit, Letcher admitted to sending the letter, claiming he did so out of disdain for his former supervisor.
The case was investigated by the FBI and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Tamara Thomson. U.S. Attorney Richard S. Hartunian and FBI Albany Special Agent in Charge Andrew W. Vale announced the sentencing, which included a four-year term of probation, a $5,000 fine, and 180 hours of community service.
Letcher’s sentence also includes a stern warning: he is prohibited from having any contact with his former boss or BAE Systems. The severity of the sentence sends a clear message that workplace sabotage will not be tolerated.
The Honorable Thomas J. McAvoy handed down the sentence on December 4, 2014. As the community breathes a sigh of relief, one thing is clear: the truth will always prevail in the end.
