St. Croix Man Charged with Firearm Possession

Moises Figueroa Jr., a 45-year-old man from St. Croix, has been charged with two serious firearm-related offenses after a dramatic incident at the Frederiksted Post Office.

According to court documents, on May 26, 2021, federal law enforcement agents conducted a controlled delivery of two parcels suspected of containing firearms. Figueroa was detained in the parking lot of the Frederiksted Post Office after picking up the parcels.

The agents confiscated a loaded Taurus Millennium Pro semiautomatic pistol from Figueroa’s waistband, leading to the charges of Possession of a Firearm on U.S. Postal Service Property and Illegal Possession of a Firearm.

If convicted, Figueroa faces up to 10 years in prison. A federal district court judge will determine any sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.

The United States Postal Inspection Service (USPIS), Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF) are investigating the case.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Daniel H. Huston is prosecuting the case, which is part of the nationwide Project Safe Neighborhoods Initiative. Project Safe Neighborhoods brings together federal, state, local, and tribal law enforcement officials, prosecutors, and community leaders to identify the most pressing violent crime problems in a community and develop comprehensive solutions to address them.

A complaint is merely an allegation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
