St. Francis Man Jailed for Assaulting Officer
Jeffrey Lynn Curry, a 29-year-old man from St. Francis, South Dakota, has been sentenced to 20 months in custody for Assaulting, Resisting, Opposing and Impeding a Federal Officer.
According to reports, Curry’s vehicle was being pursued by officers on July 22, 2012, when he intentionally drove at an officer’s vehicle, causing it to leave the roadway to avoid being hit.
Curry used similar driving behaviors to force other officers and at least one citizen to take evasive action to avoid his vehicle, putting their lives in danger.
The investigation was conducted by Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services, and the case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Timothy M. Maher.
Curry was indicted by a federal grand jury on August 22, 2012, and pled guilty to the charge on February 12, 2012, before U.S. District Judge Roberto A. Lange.
As a result of his conviction, Curry was sentenced to 20 months in custody, 2 years of supervised release, and $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. He was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshal.
Curry’s actions on that fateful day were a clear threat to the safety of law enforcement officers and the public. His sentence serves as a reminder that such behavior will not be tolerated.
